(c) Pictures: Shant B.My first impression on La Palma, when I walked through Martina and its parallel street in Santa Cruz de la Palma (Capital of Island!) is great. La Palma is calm, nice and steady. In every step you will find bars, restaurants and cafes, there is no tension, no anger or no thought on the face of La Palmaians. They are sitting on cafes, chatting and laughing. Accidently this weekend I step to small art gallery of a old German woman, where she presented her paintings. There is an article on in gallery presentation desk where it’s an interview with her. She said that once she was invited to La Palma for a short period, but as she sees all the beauty and calmness of this island, she stays for 4 years till the day. She admits that La Palma is heaven. Although I have not seen heaven yet! But I agree with her about the calmness of the island …
From Wiki
La Palma is the most north-westerly of the Canary Islands. La Palma has an area of 706 km2 making it the fifth largest of the seven main Canary Islands. The total population is about 86,000, of which 18,000 (2003 data) live in the capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma and about 20,000 (2004 data) in Los Llanos de Aridane.
La Palma, like the other islands of the Canary Island archipelago, is a volcanic ocean island. The volcano rises almost 7 km above the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. There is road access from sea level to the summit at 2,423 m (7,949 ft), which is marked by an outcrop of rocks called Los Muchachos ("The Lads"). This is the site of the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, one of the world's premier astronomical observatories.
